Clarithromycin tablets (Generic Biaxin) are used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. This drug can also be used in combination with anti-ulcer medications to treat certain types of stomach ulcers. It may also be used to prevent certain bacterial infections. Clarithromycin (Generic Biaxin) is a macrolide antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (for example common cold, flu).

Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
